Parcel Collect, Counter Delivery & Poste Restante - what is the difference?

Parcel Collect

Despite the name, it is not just for parcels. Parcel Collect is an NZ Post service which allows you to collect your mail from 200+ participating retailers. Locations include NZ Post Retailers (these are often bookshops, pharmacies, dairies etc.), CourierPost Depots, participating Countdown supermarkets and Z Energy stations.

You can send mail to a Parcel Collect location from within your Private Box account. See How to use Parcel Collect

The benefit of Parcel Collect is that you get an email notification once your item has arrived and is ready for collection.

Poste Restante

Poste Restante is available at select NZ Post Post Shop branches. Your mail & parcels can be forwarded to participating branches so you can collect it from the counter.

You can see which branches Poste Restante is available at on the NZ Post website.

Note storage fees apply at the branch if mail is not collected within 7-days of delivery.

Counter Delivery

Some NZ Post outlets offer counter delivery service which can only be set up by visiting the NZ Post outlet in advance in person and registering with Photo ID.  See more about Counter Delivery on the NZ Post website.

Of the three options above we find that Parcel Collect is the most reliable and easy to use.
