How to order your mail for pick up from an NZ Post PostShop

How to order your mail for pickup from an NZ Post PostShop

We have a service in place where you can log into your account, and request us to send your mail to the closest NZ Post PostShop using the Post Restante service.

The list of NZ Post PostShops we have on our site has been provided to us by NZ Post themselves, and includes all PostShops where Post Restante is available.

As a special offer with this service, we will courier your mail to the PostShop - and all you'll pay for is the price of the courier bag - there's no handling fee on packaging your mail as there would be with the normal mail forwarding.

We will also make sure to put your mail into the smallest possible courier bag we can, to ensure the most affordable postage for you.

Courier bag prices:

DLE:  $5.70

A5:  $6.50

A4:  $8.00

Foolscap:  $8.90

Line Flow:  $11.40

What is Post Restante?

Post Restante allows you to have your mail forwarded a NZ Post PostShop near you, so you can go into the PostShop to collect your mail at the counter.

The Poste Restante service is free for letters, documents and small parcels held for up two months. Large parcels can also be held for up to two months – they will be held for the first seven days free of charge, and then $2.50 per parcel per seven days (or part thereof).  So be sure to pick up your mail soon after having it forwarded there!

After two months, any unclaimed letters or parcels will be returned to sender.  This means that the PostShop will return your mail back to us here, as we always put your address with us as the return address.

How to use Post Restante

Step 1:

First, just wait for some mail to arrive in your inbox.  This service is only available as a manual selection - you can't set up PostShop forwarding automatically.

Once you have mail you would like forwarded, simply tick the items you'd like forwarded (use the tick box on the right hand side).  From there, on the drop down list at the top of the inbox, select the option "Order a Pickup".

Step 2:

Once you have confirmed that, it'll take you to a page with three drop down lists:

1. The top list gives you every NZ Post PostShop with Post Restante available.  It also gives you some Courier Post Depots where you can pick up your mail from.

IMPORTANT: If you select a Courier Post Depot to collect your mail from, you MUST go in and say you have a parcel to pick up.  If you try to ask them for your mail, they will simply get confused and you'll have a difficult time getting your mail.

2. The second list will let you choose a Pack & Send office at which you can pick your mail up from.

3. The third option lets you select to pick your mail up from the Wellington Private Box office.  While you don't have to choose this if you're coming to pick up mail from us (you're welcome to just drop by any time we're open), this option does mean your mail has been pre-sorted and packaged so you can just come in, grab your mail and go.

The Wellington Private Box office is open for mail pickups Mon-Fri 9:30am - 12:30pm.  We are closed on weekends and public holidays.

If you need to pick up your mail outside of office hours, you can phone and someone will come and open the door for you.  Please note this incurs a $40 call out fee, payable in cash only.

Once you've chosen where you would like your mail to be sent, be sure to put the name of the person collecting the mail in the Receivers Name field.  Whoever is collecting the mail needs to present photo ID that matches the name here - so if you're having a family member or friend collect the mail for you, make sure their name is entered.  If you'll be collecting the mail yourself, just put your own name.

If no name is entered into the Receivers Name field, then the mail won't be released and will be returned back to the Private Box office.

Finally, click the continue button at the bottom, and you're done!  Your mail will be processed as soon as possible.

Remember: If you select a Courier Post Depot to collect your mail from, you MUST go in and say you have a parcel to pick up.  If you try to ask them for your mail, they will simply get confused and you'll have a difficult time getting your mail.

Be sure to notice the box which reads "Add new mail?"  - If you have this ticked, then any mail that arrives in our office between the time you make the request for your mail be forwarded and when it's sent, will be added to the bundle of mail to be sent.

If you only want a few very specific items to be sent to you, make sure that the box here isn't ticked.
